FFL Transfers:
OHIO ARMORY provides both incoming and outgoing firearm transfers.
Incoming Transfers:
The cost is $20 per item (handgun, rifle, shotgun, or receiver) that you wish to receive via transfer. This includes the required ATF logging of each item, the ATF transfer paperwork and the FBI NICS background check.
Outgoing Transfers:
The cost is $20 for the first item (handgun, rifle, shotgun, or receiver) that you wish to send to another FFL, and $10 for each additional item that is transferred at the same time and going to the same FFL, plus $30 shipping and handling. This includes the required ATF logging of the transfer and it pays for packaging and shipping costs.
What To Do:
If you would like to use my services to receive a firearm that was purchased over the internet (such as GunBroker.com), mail order, or by any other method, the procedure is simple. Once the firearm is paid for, simply contact us with the sellers information (if possible include name, address, phone number and email) and the item information (make, model, auction number, etc.) we will then contact the seller with our FFL information. The seller will then have the firearm shipped to us. When we receive it, we will verify the contents, record the transfer per ATF regulations, then give you a call to come and fill out the transfer paperwork and perform the FBI NICS background check.
If buying from BudsGunShop.com, they already have our information on file and “OHIO ARMORY” just needs to be selected as the receiving FFL in the checkout process and the firearms will automatically come to me. If buying from CheaperThanDirt.com, after completing the checkout process you will be sent a Firearm Sales Form via email. All you will need to do is forward that email to us and we take care of the rest.
You will need a current (non-expired) government issued photo ID (most commonly a driver’s license). If your driver’s license (or other government issued photo ID) does not have your current address listed, you will also need to provide a second government issued document showing your current address (such as a vehicle registration).
The FBI will give us a “Proceed”, “Denied”, or “Delayed”. If it is “Proceed” then you just pay your $20 transfer fee and you are on your way. The process takes about 10-15 minutes. If by chance you are denied, we am not given any reason, we are just instructed by the FBI to provide you with a transaction number and a phone number so that you can call and discuss the denial. If you are denied, per ATF regulations, we are unable to release the firearm to you. I will send it back to the seller and you will have to make arrangements for a refund. Generally, those denied have had a previous felony, drug charge, or domestic violence charge. If the transaction is “Delayed” then it can take up to 3 business days to get the “Proceed” or “Denied”. While waiting on a final response from the FBI, the firearm must remain in our possession.
Per federal law, we can accept firearm transfers from non-FFL’s (private sellers) as long as the actual seller provides a color photograph or scan of their current driver’s license or state issued ID emailed to me prior to shipping the firearm.
If you are uncertain if a particular firearms is legal to own in your area, just drop us an email with the make, model and, if possible, a link to the item in question and we will do our best to assess the firearm and let you know the legalities of owning the firearm in question.
Payment:
Payment of the transfer fee(s) are payable in person at the time you come and do the transfer paperwork and pick up your firearm.
If your NICS background check come back “Denied”, then you will be responsible for the $20 transfer fee as well as return shipping of the firearm(s) back to where it/they originated from; typically $60.00. Also keep in mind that returned firearms usually have a 15-25% restocking fee at the originator (check with your seller).
